Lectionary Theme: Annunciation to Virgin Mary;Call to be the mother of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world; – Diaspora Sunday

  •

    10. Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! For lo, I will come and dwell in your midst, says the Lord.

    11. Many nations shall join themselves to the Lord on that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in your midst. And you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.

    12. The Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.

    13. Be silent, all people, before the Lord; for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.

    1. Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

    2. which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

    3. the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh

    4. and was declared to be Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

    5. through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for the sake of his name,

    6. including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,

    7. To all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Prayer of Thanksgiving

    26. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.

    27. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;

    28. God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are,

    29. so that no one might boast in the presence of God.

    30. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

    31. in order that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

    26. In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,

    27. to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.

    28. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

    29. But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

    30. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

    31. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.

    32. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David.

    33. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

    34. Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

    35. The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God.

    36. And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren.

    37. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

    38. Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her. Mary Visits Elizabeth
