    15. Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

    16. Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods;

    17. for it is the Lord our God who brought us and our ancestors up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight. He protected us along all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed;

    18. and the Lord drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”

    19. But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.

    20. If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after having done you good.”

    21. And the people said to Joshua, “No, we will serve the Lord!”

    11. For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin;

    12. for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

    13. You have heard, no doubt, of my earlier life in Judaism. I was violently persecuting the church of God and was trying to destroy it.

    14. I advanced in Judaism beyond many among my people of the same age, for I was far more zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.

    15. But when God, who had set me apart before I was born and called me through his grace, was pleased

    16. to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with any human being,

    17. nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were already apostles before me, but I went away at once into Arabia, and afterwards I returned to Damascus.

    57. Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son.

    58. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.

    59. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah after his father.

    60. But his mother said, “No; he is to be called John.”

    61. They said to her, “None of your relatives has this name.”

    62. Then they began motioning to his father to find out what name he wanted to give him.

    63. He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And all of them were amazed.

    64. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God.

    65. Fear came over all their neighbors, and all these things were talked about throughout the entire hill country of Judea.

    66. All who heard them pondered them and said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him. Zechariah’s Prophecy

    1. The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth, and not only I but also all who know the truth,

    2. because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:

    3. Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, in truth and love. Truth and Love

    4. I was overjoyed to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father.

    5. But now, dear lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning, let us love one another.

    6. And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment just as you have heard it from the beginning—you must walk in it.
